Welcome! to the online home of The Well-Balanced Pianist. My name is Teresa Dybvig, and I'm Director of The Well-Balanced Pianist. On behalf of all of us, I would like to thank you for visiting from all over the world! I hope you find something you need here. The Well-Balanced Pianist presents intensive programs for small groups of pianists, high school and adult, amateur and professional. Our faculty is dedicated to giving you all the tools you need to play the piano well, perform well, teach effectively, and enjoy it all in a supportive, cooperative enviroment. But don't just believe me, read what our participants say! On this site you can read all about our programs, learn about upcoming Well-Balanced Pianist learning festivals in Colorado and Pennsylvania, or read about the five core elements of The Well-Balanced Pianist: If you're a serious pianist or teacher, you might be interested in the Taubman Approach to piano technique, our guide to comfortable seating at the piano, webcam lessons, or information about learning styles. You also might like this poster on applying the Dunn and Dunn Learning Styles to musical memory. If you have a playing-related injury, you might be curious about the prevalence of injuries among musicians, but learning the Taubman Approach to piano technique will be more helpful for you. If you have focal hand dystonia or another involuntary movement, coordinate, cooperative movement can help you! To get an idea of how, you can read what some of our students with dystonia say, read about retraining and dystonia, read answers to some questions about dystonia, and take a look at a poster about habits common to people with dystonia. I invite you to attend the Colorado 2012 program and participate in the package for pianists with dystonia. I love to hear from you, so please feel welcome to contact me with your questions and comments. Happy practicing! Teresa Dybvig
