Colorado 2010: Travel, Meals, and
Accommodation
Travel: If you travel by air,
you will be most comfortable if you plan to arrive at the Denver airport by
12:30 or on July 22 for the main program (earlier will be more
comfortable for you, since check-in starts at 1 pm), and by 3 pm on July 20
for the special one-day options on July 21. We will have a full day on
Tuesday, July 27, so you should plan your departure for no earlier than July
28. The closest airport is the Denver International airport (DEN). Many
major and smaller budget
airlines fly into
Denver. When you are looking for flights, check the
Midwest Airlines,
Jet Blue Airways,
Frontier Airlines, and
Southwest Airlines websites as well as
your favorite air travel websites, which don't always show budget airline
options. From the airport, you can take a 45-minute ride on
Super Shuttle to the college.
The cost as of this writing is $33, excluding tip, and $9 for each additional
passenger. We will try to help you coordinate shuttle
transportation.
The CCU Music Department address is 9200 W.
Ellsworth in Lakewood, CO. You will need the zip code to make a shuttle
reservation: 80226.
Accommodation: If you would
like university accommodation, please let us know when you register.
CCU housing: Some 3-bedroom
student apartments have been set aside for us at Colorado Christian University.
The housing reservation will cover the entire program, from check-in on July 22
through the morning of July 28. If you are planning to attend one of the July
21 special packages on July 21, you can check into an apartment on July
20.
If your goal is economy, or to be within
walking distance of the program, this is your best bet. For student housing,
these apartments are comfortable; they are air-conditioned, non-smoking, and
walking distance from the school. Each room has two twin beds. There is a
kitchen, but no implements or cooking equipment. The cost will be somewhere
between approximately $91/night for one person in an apartment and
approximately $19/night if you share a room in a full apartment (which is
pretty tight but can be done if you are very good friends). If you would like
to stay in a Colorado Christian University apartment, we'll be happy to try to
set you up with as many apartment-mates and roommates as you would like. Though
unfortunately we cannot promise you a roommate, this usually seems to
work out. To be on the safe side, we suggest you budget for a stay by
yourself.
Hotel: If you are looking for
a bit more luxury than university housing can provide, there are several hotels
in the area. You can find them by searching for hotels near the music
department: 9200 W. Ellsworth, Lakewood, CO 80226 (corner of Garrison and
Ellsworth). People who stay at any of the area hotels will need their own
transportation.
Meals: You are on your own for
breakfast. The CCU apartments have refrigerator, microwave, and stove (though
no pots, pans, or utensils). There is also a nearby coffee shop.
For those who cannot bring their own lunch,
it will be delivered for $9 per lunch both on July 21 for those attending the
Special Packages, and for most days of the Main Program (on Sunday we have
lunch on our own). You will make your choice before we arrive and pay for your
lunches when you check in.
Dinner will be tasty takeout, and is included
in your registration fee. One dinner during the Main Program is on your own. We
will organize a trip to dinner on July 21 for those attending the Special
Packages.

Students
say
"Susan
Nowicki is a superb musician and teacher. I worked with her retraining at
the piano for about two years and found that her knowledge of the principals of
the Taubman technique is deep and her ability to translate these principals
into practical, technical movements at the piano remarkable. She combines an
organized, patient approach to learning these complex yet essential movements
with a deep sense of the music being addressed and the practical experiences of
a seasoned performing artist. Susan was the essential hand which brought me
through new stages of control at the piano, when uncertainty, and fear
threatened to stagnate my developing new skills. I recommend her as a teacher
without reservation." Adrienne Sirken,
Pianist and Educator
"Judy
Huston understands my body more than anyone else I've
encountered." Rebecca Olsson,
Pianist and Vocalist
"Before
studying with Teresa Dybvig, I had studied with several prominent
teachers of the Taubman Technique for nine years. Although I made some
progress, it was not until I started studying with Terry that my technique
finally came together... Terry helped me regain my proper posture and hand
shape... Terry not only was able to balance my body; her focus is always on
musical expression. She has a unique gift of balancing the teaching of
technical skills with the expression of music. I am finally beginning to be
where I want to be in my piano playing. I am convinced that this is due to
Terry's high quality teaching."
